French master flower painters were responsible for these sophisticated designs. Working mostly for Parisian studios in the late nineteenth century, they produced exquisite patterns whose relaxed naturalism made a strong contrast to the flat stylized Art Nouveau floral period. The elegant textiles made from these paintings were widely used, particularly for interior decoration.
